The BBC covered this subject - in a different way, of narrower focus - with an absolutely excellent Radio 4 dramatisation of the story and characters involved around and during the actual making of the film.
The play was, "Sunk", by Mike Walker and that was aired last year, (2011)...
Glad that someone has picked up this story. My own book - The Third Reich's Celluloid War - has just been published and looks in detail at this film and other anti-English films set in the likes of Ireland, Scotland and South Africa which are just as fascinating- all as part of the Nazi Propaganda machine.

So much for freedom of speech! Ba, Humbug. What a shame that we Americans cant watch a silly propaganda film that is over 60 years old!
